![]() ABOUT US... Preventable injuries are the number one killer of children ages 14 and under in the United States and Tennessee. In 1999 a coalition of social service agencies, law enforcement agencies, health and safety professionals, business owners, and civic groups was formed in Knoxville to accomplish a common mission: reduce unintentional injuries among children from birth to age 14 who live in our area. With the support of Safe Kids Worldwide, the coalition works to identify local injury trends affecting children in the greater Knox area. The coalition then coordinates specific prevention activities directed towards reducing these injuries (see "prevention activities" below). In 2008 East Tennessee Children's Hospital became lead organization for Safe Kids of the Greater Knox Area. Although support comes from many national and local sources, our volunteers are our greatest and most effective resource, so... JOIN US! Safe Kids meetings are usually held the fourth Tuesday of every month from 8:30-10 a.m. at East Tennessee Children's Hospital. See the calendar of events to verify meeting times.
